sign the principles

As evangelical Christian leaders, we call for foreign policy that:

  • Upholds the God-given dignity of every person in every nation (Genesis 1:26-27, 9:6);

  • Emphasizes the government's role as an implementer of justice, supporting what is good and opposing what is evil (Romans 13:1-4, 1 Peter 2:13-17, Acts 5:29);

  • Maintains a preference for prevention of violent conflict and non-violent strategies to attain peace (Matthew 26:52; Romans 12:14-21; Zechariah 4:6; Psalm 33:16);

  • Promotes informal diplomacy between private citizens and groups (Romans 12:18, Hebrews 12:14, Matthew 18:15-17, Luke 12:58);

  • Authorizes the church to build relationships that transcend national and ethnic boundaries regardless of “enemy” status (Matthew 5:43-48; Romans 3:29-30; Colossians 3:11; Galatians 3:28); and

  • Addresses the multifaceted needs of displaced peoples, victims of violence and other forms of evil (Malachi 4:5, Isaiah 58:6-12, James 1:27, Acts 24:16).
